In the wake of the COVID pandemic and best infection prevention practices, many traditional "walk-in" clinics, including ours, have moved to a "by appointment only" system. While this may seem less convenient sometimes, it also imoprtantly avoids a crowded waiting room full of people waiting long periods of time for their turn to see the doctor. Instead of just showing up and not knowing when you might get seen, you will be given a dedicated appointment time that is reserved just for you.
Unfortunately we are in the midst of a primary care crisis in BC, which has resulted in a shortage of available physicians. We do our best to make as many appointment slots available as we can, but sometimes demand will outstrip the supply our available walk-in doctors can provide.
Yes! The online schedule has our doctors' live availability - what you see is what we have.
"Walk-in" doctors provide episodic care and have varying schedules. They do not have a specified "roster" of patients that they reserve their time for, like your Family Doctor would. However, when you book an appointment with our walk-in clinic, you may select a specific preferred doctor if you wish, as long as they have open availability.
Precriptions will typically be faxed directly to your preferred pharmacy.
Requisitions and forms will typically be sent to you through our secure online patient portal, which you log into after receiving a notification by text or email. Sometimes doctors can also email the form to you directly, fax it directly to facility or lab, or print it out for you to pick up in person at the clinic. Talk to your doctor about which option works best for you.
Unfortunately BC Health Insurance does not usually cover doctor's fees for completing forms or writing letters. Like any professional, doctors charge a fee for this service which covers their extensive training, expertise, time, and liability assumed by signing their name to any document.
You have the right to know the cost of any service prior to requesting it; our staff will happily provide you with a list of fees for uninsured services (including forms) at any time.
When you book an appointment, that date and time is reserved just for you. If you do not show or cancel your appointment late, this not only is a missed opportunity of care for you, but also takes a time slot away from someone else who could have used that appointment.
As you know, doctor's appointments can be hard to come by sometimes, and we want to ensure that all available time is used efficiently to maximize patient care.
